Higher Education in Slovakia – Language Requirements and Preparation Process
International students have the right to choose the terms under which they wish to study. First, they check the language of instruction, which can be either English or Slovak.
What are the Language Requirements?
For programs taught in Slovak, the university may require proof of language proficiency. Some programs at Comenius University require international applicants to demonstrate B2-level proficiency in Slovak. For English-language programs, proof of English proficiency is also required: a minimum B2 level or an international certificate.
Before submitting your application, check the requirements for your chosen program. If you are considering Slovakia education, verify the language of instruction, the required proficiency level, and the format of the supporting document.
How to Prepare for Admission?
It's best to start preparing a few months before the deadline. Please note the following information:
- 6-12 months - Selecting programs and verifying language requirements.
- 3-6 months - Completing language training and taking the exam.
- 2-4 months - Preparing and translating educational documents.
- Before the deadline - Submitting the application and all required documents.
Foreign high school diplomas may need to be recognized in Slovakia. The Ministry of Education notes that a simplified online procedure is available for certain countries. Application deadlines vary by university and program, so be sure to double-check them.
