Studying in English in Slovakia – Does it really feel like studying abroad?

One of the most significant choices a candidate makes when applying to study medicine abroad is the language of instruction. In Slovakia, medical programs taught in English have become especially popular, attracting students from around the world – from Israel to India and Germany.

This requires adjustment and sometimes a bit of frustration in the beginning, but many students say it actually helps them feel part of the culture, develop independence, and learn a new language along the way.

Beyond the language aspect, the studies themselves follow European standards, and universities take a very methodical approach. There is strong emphasis on deep understanding, practical application, and building a solid medical foundation. The fact that everything is in English does not compromise the quality – on the contrary. The material is accessible, clear, and relevant even for those planning a career outside of Slovakia.

And what about the overall feeling? In the end, yes – it truly feels like studying abroad. You’re surrounded by students from different countries, studying in an international environment, living in a foreign country, facing a new language and culture, and building a new life for yourself. It may be a bit challenging at first, but over time – it just feels like your second home.
