To live in a prospective country and enjoy its benefits, you first need to obtain a residence permit in Slovakia. Get through this stage without any unnecessary complications by understanding the legal requirements and the correct step-by-step process.

Steps for Obtaining a Residence Permit

Applying for a temporary residence permit in Slovakia begins with submitting an application to the immigration department of the police station in the area where you intend to live. To apply, you will need to prepare the following documents:

  • standard questionnaire;
  • international passport;
  • documents confirming the purpose of the visit (employment contract, invitation letter, enrollment certificate);
  • police clearance certificate;
  • accommodation proof;
  • financial evidence;
  • health insurance policy;
  • payment receipt.

The application is processed within 1 to 3 months. If approved, a temporary residence permit valid for 1 to 5 years is issued.

To get a permanent residence permit, you must have resided in the country legally for at least 5 years, have a stable income, a clean record, and comply with all conditions. Please be aware that violating the law, providing false data, or losing your source of income may result in the revocation of your residence permit.
