A Slovak passport opens the door to life in Europe without having to renounce your own citizenship. It can be obtained by birth, marriage, descent, or after 8 years of living here with a residence permit. The document grants EU citizenship, including freedom of movement and the right to live and work in any EU country.

Steps for Getting a Passport

The path to Slovakia citizenship through naturalization is a gradual process. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Apply for a country visa for stays longer than 90 days. Send your request to the consulate, along with your passport, photo, insurance, and proof of the purpose of your trip.
  2. Obtain a residence permit. You will have to prove your earnings and housing, a criminal background check, and health insurance. The permit is valid for up to five years and can be renewed.
  3. After several years of residence, apply for permanent residency. Documents proving stable income, housing, and insurance are required.
  4. The next step is citizenship. You can do it after 8 years of living, undergo a language proficiency interview, and await a decision. The review process takes about two years.
  5. The final stage is obtaining national documents. You receive a passport and ID card from the police using biometric data.

Please note that it is not possible to purchase citizenship or obtain it through investment (such as the purchase of real estate).
